GRACE Building Project
In September 2012, GRACE After School was enjoying a great space for activities, homework and enrichment lessons. But we didn't have a place to put all our books or backpacks. We began to plan a building project to make our own bookshelves and backpack cubbies, with the help of Pastor Steve Schenk.
GRACE students were directly involved in every stage of the process, from planning the size and shape of the shelves and cubbies, to putting them together and painting them. The skills they learned include sketching construction plans, measuring and marking wood, hammering nails, drilling and sawing, and painting.
Our beautiful bookshelf allows us to easily store the entire collection of GRACE After School books. Our finished cubbies not only provide plenty of space for backpacks and other belongings, but also have coat hooks for extra storage during the winter!
